RE:  Updated Dispatch Ice Haus Parking Policies on Arena Event nights

Already this season we’ve had some problems with unauthorized parking in the Nationwide Arena garage on Blue Jackets game nights as well as during other Arena events.  This has been an issue in the past and continues to be a concern for both Chiller and Blue Jackets/NWA management.  We are committed to finding a solution that is fair and reasonable. The priority is to make sure that the Blue Jackets PSL holders who have paid in advance for parking are taken care of, while still ensuring we accommodate Ice Haus customers.

Unfortunately abuse of the system is causing both Ice Haus and Blue Jackets customers to be turned away.  We have a plan that should take care of this once and for all and will ensure that all Ice Haus customers (written to have the privilege to park in the garage on event nights), and Blue Jackets customers will never be turned away.  Following is how the system will work:

  1. On Arena event nights, Dispatch Ice Haus customers will have access to 50 parking spaces in the attached garage at no charge – this is enough to accommodate on ice activities if we work together.  Those spaces will typically be located immediately inside the entrance to the garage.  Once those spaces are gone, they’re gone and Ice Haus customers will have to pay to park elsewhere*.

*Thanks to Nationwide Arena Management and Standard Parking, for the first time our customers will now have access to deeply discounted parking on event nights in the Front Street garage at the corner of Front and Nationwide Blvd.  Parking IN THIS GARAGE ONLY will be $3 on event nights for Ice Haus customers – THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO OTHER ARENA DISTRICT LOTS OR GARAGES.  Customers need to simply identify what program they are with to receive this discount.

  1. The Arena and Front St. garage attendants will have a list of scheduled events in the Ice Haus.  Ice Haus customers will have to identify why they are going to the Ice Haus or what group they belong with.
  2. It is important I have all information regarding which teams/opponents are using your scheduled times so they aren’t turned away.  If they are not listed on our schedule, they will be turned away from the Arena garage and charged full price at the Front St. garage.
  3. Ice Haus customers will have a half hour from the end of their ice time to exit the Arena garage.  An attendant will be tracking cars in and out.  Any cars still parked after their allotted time will be towed. This applies only to the Arena garage.
  4. Once an Ice Haus customer exits the Arena garage, that space will become available for incoming Ice Haus customers.
  5. Please do not arrive for your scheduled ice time more than 30 minutes early on event nights if you plan to park in the Arena garage.  If players need more time they can be dropped off early but you may be unable to park.

To have access to free and discounted parking at a downtown arena on major league event nights is a privilege!  However this will require cooperation and patience on everyone’s part to make it work.  Once it does work, I’m confident the system will be much better for you and your players/parents/fans because it should actually create more available parking than we’ve ever had.  Continued abuse of the system will result in a total loss of these privileges.

Please share this information with everyone in your organization and your opponents.  It is important that everyone who uses the Dispatch Ice Haus is aware of major arena events and plans accordingly.  Please remind them to take the following steps to help everyone out:

  1. Carpool, Carpool, Carpool!
  2. Drop players and bags off at the Ice Haus entrance before parking
  3. Plan ahead for traffic
  4. Be patient
  5. When practice or games are over, change, shower and leave quickly
